THE sun shone brightly on a perfect day for the annual Weymouth & Portland RFC Beach Tag Rugby Festival.

A total of 21 teams played for three trophies in an action-packed event on Weymouth Beach.

The senior competition was made up of nine sides and split into two pools for the round-robin stages.

Sandhoppers ran away with Pool One by winning all their games, while Barry Ross Army equalled that feat to triumph in Pool Two.

There were plenty of tries scored in the final but most went the way of Barry Ross Army who won 7-2.

The award for the most community-based team had to go to the Rugger Mamas, made up of parents from the Weymouth & Portland mini and youth sections – a 3-3 draw against Worst for Wear was their crowning glory.

It was a much closer final in the youth event as Beach Babes took on North Dorset Under-15s.

The game went into extra-time with the sides locked at three tries all, but it was North Dorset who got the winning score to lift the trophy.

In the minis (under-7s to 12s), Weymouth Fosters cruised to the top of the pool with five wins from five, before beating Weird Fish 6-3 in the final.

Festival organisers would like to thank everybody that helped on the day, including the Dorset & Wilts referees and all of the volunteers from the club.

Beach rugby continues on Wednesday nights from 6.30-8pm in front of Alexandra Gardens for anybody from under-7s to 16s that wants to give it a go.
