THE highlight of the South West’s hill climb season is undoubtedly the visit of the country’s premier series, the Avon Tyres/TTC Group British Hill Climb Championship, set to be held at Wiscombe Park this weekend.

The main championship event with two exciting run-offs for the fastest 12 championship competitors will be on Sunday, and the previous day will see a separate event for local drivers plus the practice runs for those contesting the national championship.

Two such drivers, who will share the same car, are Charminster’s Rod Thorne and Andrew Forysth from Shillingstone. Forsyth having driven the Pilbeam MP43 sports racer before at the Woolbridge Motor Club’s Charmouth hill climb, should acclimatise rapidly and be keeping the car’s owner honest.

The duo will have to face the challenge of the mighty Sylva Striker driven by Doug Bennett with 2.3 litre turbocharged power.

The Saturday event sees Dorchester’s Steve Hills in action with his Renault Clio Cup, whilst Wiscombe regulars Graham and Geoff Blake from Weymouth will contest both meetings in their rapid Westfield SEi in the Modified Specialist Production Car class.

Two further drivers who will be giving of their all in both meetings of this weekend extravaganza of speed hill climbing will be Sylva Riot pilot Stewart Green from Frampton and Lyme Regis driver Ryan Moore in his Ford Puma.

Favourite for success at Wiscombe this weekend is the 2012 British Champion Trevor Willis.

Willis, the fastest driver to compete at Wis-combe having posted a new hill record at Wiscombe two years ago will be keen to close the gap at the top of the points table to Scott Moran who last weekend increased his lead in the championship standings to 30 points following events in the Channel Islands.

Willis will take his OMS 28 chassis powered by a 3.2 litre Powertec V8 engine up against current third place man Will Hall aboard his 3.5 litre Nissan powered Force WH.

The series only visits Wiscombe once during the season so spectators will looking to the fastest driver and car combinations, not only to be fighting each other, but bidding for a new hill record should track conditions allow.

Although the focus of attention will be on these ultimate machines, there will be a huge supporting cast of saloon and sports cars.
