TERRAS’ boss Jason Matthews was full of praise for frontman Conor Jevon, who came off the bench to net the winner for his side in their 3-2 win at Plymouth Parkway.

Jevon’s performances have caught the attention of the Weymouth chief in pre-season, and Matthews claims the young striker could play a pivotal role in the senior squad this term.

“I have been very impressed with Conor Jevon, he is a part of my first-team plans now and he has stolen a march on a few others in my squad,” the Terras’ player-manager told Echosport.

“I won’t be afraid to use him just because he is one of the younger lads, he has earned his chance on merit and he came off the bench and took his chance very well on Saturday, I’m delighted for him.”

Speaking about the display, in which Matthews’ men battled back from behind to secure victory, he added: “It was a different type of performance than we have encountered so far with a tough away day.

“What really pleased me was that the lads didn’t drop their heads and showed massive character to come back.

“To score two good goals at the end just showed that we didn’t get away from our game plan, we didn’t lump it long and we moved the ball well.

“The subs came on and did well and it shows I have a bit of strength in depth now as a manager, and I am very pleased with the result. Everyone is bonding very well and that is what pre-season is all about.”
