SAM Poole is set to take his place back in the Terras’ squad this evening, as Weymouth host Frome Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium (7.45pm).

The former club skipper played 90 minutes for the reserves at Sturminster Marshall on Saturday, and with Ed Palmer believed to be unavailable for tonight’s game, Poole looks to be in place to start in the heart of the defence.

“It gives Sam a chance to take his place and slot back into the team,” Terras’ boss Jason Matt-hews told Echosport.

“It is a good opportunity for him and he needs to take his chance.

“In fairness to Ed, he has done brilliantly since he has come back to the club and there is competition for places, which makes my life tough at the moment, but in a nice way.

“I feel that I have a good squad and it needs to be utilised, everyone will get their chance.”

Like Matthews’ men, Frome also started their campaign with a win, but in controversial circumstances away at Histon.

The Somerset-based side had Kris Miller and Matt Smith sent off in the closing minutes in their 2-1 triumph.

Matthews added: “We need to try and build some momentum and try and get a bit of a run going, we are expecting a really tough game.

“I know a lot about Frome, they have done extremely well since Adrian Forster has taken charge, he deserves a lot of credit for that. They will play with a lot of passion and are coming off a great result away at Histon.”

Weymouth will be without Tim Sills who is still suspended, and Matthews also revealed to Echosport that Poole Town recently put in an approach to sign striker Conor Jevon.

Matthews added: “We would be disappointed to lose Conor, he has done very well in pre-season, mixed in with the lads well and he likes it here.

“I take it as a compliment because people are asking for my players and we are only one game into the season.”
