THE men’s September medal was held on Sunday and 65 players took part on a fine morning.

The three leaders in Division One all came in with the same nett scores and all were sub-70. A similar situation occurred in Division Three, the only difference being one more shot in their nett scores.

After countback, Peter Marshall in Division One came out top on the day, scoring a nett 68 with Gavin Gay taking the runner-up spot.

In Division Two, David Corp, with 71, was the winner by one shot from Roger Galpin. Steve Hynes, notching a nett 69, topped Division Three after countback with Tony Edwards finishing second.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 (acb) Peter Marshall (78-10=68), 2 (acb) Gavin Gay (77-9=68), 3 Graham Blunden (77-9=68).

Junior Kieran Mulhall carded the lowest gross score – 75.

Division Two: 1 David Corp (87-16=71), 2 (acb) Roger Galpin (87-15=72), 3 Mike A Thompson (85-13=72).

Division Three: 1 (acb) Steve Hynes (88-19=69), 2 (acb) Tony Edwards (96-27=69), 3 Nathan Dunford (91-22=69).

Edwards had his handicap cut by two shots and Marshall, Gay, Hynes and Dunford by one.

Veterans’ Section

IT WAS the veterans’ open which was a four-ball betterball off ¾ handicap competition, only this year Bridport players were only allowed to play with an invited guest from another club.

After a cool and misty start, the weather was fine and 82 players took part from 31 clubs.

Bearing in mind the handicap allowance, the scores were excellent and the winners, after countback with 43 points, were the Sherborne team of Andy Craig and Dave Grinter.

Runners-up were the team of Steve Rogers (Isle of Purbeck) and Martin Wilkins (Burnham & Barrow), also with 43 points.

1 (acb) Andy Craig and Dave Grinter (Sherborne) 43 points, 2 Steve Rogers (Isle of Purbeck) and Martin Wilkins (Burnham & Barrow) 43, 3 Richard Lomax (Bridport) and Chris Walker (Donnington) 41, 4 (acb) Phil Bendall and Dave Collins (Mendip) 40, 5 (acb) Roy Francis and Bob Jones (Canford School) 40, 6 Bill Bailey and A Williamson (Teignmouth) 40.

The following day, the regular Thursday competition was also a four-ball betterball, only this time off full handicap, hence the higher scores.

Weather conditions were similar to the previous day and 48 players took part.

The winners, after countback, were Mike Brake (19) and Robert Froy (28) with 46 points and Roy Gill (13) and Jon Winkle (24) were the runners-up.

Third, after countback, were Angus Nicoll (15) and Brian Osborne (22) with 45 points and fourth was John Sansom (17) and Gil Roberts (23).

Another 11 teams carded scores in the 40s. The Juniors’ September Medal was won by Kieran Mulhall with the excellent score of 71-7=64 earning him a one-shot handicap cut.

Ladies’ Section

LADIES’ Day began overcast and chilly but warmed up and brightened to suggest that summer is not yet quite over.

Twenty-eight ladies played a qualifying Stableford competition.

For some of the members, there was much more at stake than the usual prize money.

Those fortunate enough to have grandchildren or even great grandchildren were competing for the Granny Cup.
