WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2 MERE TOWN 2

WEYMOUTH Reserves’ manager Jake Richmond expressed his relief at hearing the final whistle on Saturday, as his side snatched a point against Mere Town.

The Terras came from behind on two separate occasions to grab a result at the Bob Lucas Stad-ium, a draw in which Richmond believed they were fortunate to achieve.

“I think we robbed them to be honest,” he told Echosport.

“They probably deserved three points but we dug in and played well in patches.

“They had a lad on the left wing who was very good and we never really got close to him all game, our two centre-backs had to work overtime as well.”

After Adam Anstey headed over Dan Pidgley’s corner and Josh Tennant fired over the cross- bar as part of a slick four-man move from the Terras, they fell behind midway through the first half.

Caught cold by a swift one-two in the area, Terry Thorne gave the visitors the lead as he placed a shot past Ryan Park in the Weymouth goal.

Richmond added: “At half-time I would have definitely taken a point and the pleasing thing was we didn’t give up and we kept battling and fighting.”

Just short of the hour mark, Richmond’s charges drew level when defender Aston Butcher rose highest to nod the ball into the back of the net from substitute Ashley Ayley’s free-kick.

Rhys Mendham then put the away side back in the ascendancy to make it 2-1, but up stepped Mark Ford to run on to a precise through ball from Gareth Will and strike home to claim the point 19 minutes from time.

Richmond added: “I was rel-ieved to hear the final whistle to be honest, because every time they went forward, they caused us grief.”

The Terras, now fifth in the Dorset Premier League, will take on Merley Cobham Sports at home next Saturday (3pm).
