TINTINHULL 0 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 5
THE Terras delivered a five-star performance to reach the quarter-finals of the Dorset Premier League Cup and leave Jake Richmond a hugely pleased and proud manager.
Ashley Ayley and Luke Chatterton gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time before further goals from Sam Nichols, Jamie Beasley and Josh Tennant wrapped up the win.
Weymouth set the tone early on and Ayley smashed a free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards to open the scoring.
The lead might have been doubled on 22 minutes but Tennant’s effort was ruled out for handball.
A second did arrive in the 36th-minute, Chatterton finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box after a clever dummy by Gareth Will.
The Terras had to be patient as they went in search of a third, and when it came there was a huge slice of good fortune involved.
Nichols picked up the ball, beat three men and unleashed a shot that hit a bobble and flew through the Tintinhull keeper’s legs.
It was 4-0 with 15 minutes left when Beasley scored from the spot following a foul on Nichols.
And Tennant completed the scoring late on, reacting quickest to a Beasley shot that hit the bar.
Back at the Terras, Adam Anstey’s goal-line clearance in the dying seconds typified his side’s all-round performance.
“We were absolutely brilliant from start to finish,” said Richmond. “We followed on from last week when we put in a really good performance and lost.
“Even though it was a cup game, the lads showed desire to keep a clean sheet and we tried to play football the right way.
“I thought Josh Tennant worked his socks off and Levente Nagy had another very good game at left-back.”
Richmond also had praise for his players involved in the first team’s Red Insure Cup defeat of Dorchester last week.
He said: “Gareth Will and Jamie Beasley were excellent, and Sammy Nichols got on for his first-team debut as well.
“The lads want to play as high as they can and games like that show what we as a reserve team are all about, developing players for when they step up.”
