A WIN for Dorchester Town against Burnham tonight (7.45pm) would see the Magpies do something they have yet to achieve under boss Graham Kemp – record back-to-back league victories.

The county town side battled back to beat Hitchin on Saturday and take on a Burnham team smarting from three successive league defeats.

Burnham occupy the fourth and final relegation spot in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, although the Magpies are only three places and as many points above them going into the match at the Avenue.

Dorchester won the reverse fixture 5-1 earlier in the season, but Kemp is well aware that tonight’s encounter is likely to be just as tough as last weekend’s.

And although the FA Cup tie with Bristol Rovers is looming large, the bread and butter of the league is Kemp’s top priority.

“It’s a big game tonight and we need to win just to give us a little bit of breathing space in the table,” he said.

“Two or three wins will take a bit of pressure off and we worked so hard on Saturday that it would be a shame if we couldn’t follow that up with another victory.

“We’ve been a bit up and down in the league and haven’t managed to win two in a row since I’ve been here.

“When we’ve played well in one game the next has come along and it has not quite happened for us.

“But the feeling in the dressing room after the game on Saturday was a bit different and the players felt that maybe things had changed.”

He added: “All the players want to play in the Bristol Rovers game and it’s a good chance for them to stake a claim for a place.

“But we have to keep our season alive after that match and that’s why the league is so important.

“Four teams go down from this league so we have to make sure we get enough points to be safe first and foremost.”

Ben Joyce (hamstring) misses out after coming off early on Saturday, while Steve Walker has left the club to join Frome Town.

Walker’s chances of game time at the Avenue had been limited since the arrival of Chris Dillon and Matt Oldring.

Frome made an approach for the centre-half and Walker agreed terms with the Somerset club after speaking to manager Adrian Foster.

“We’ve got an excess of centre-halves and Steve wasn’t going to get as many games as he would have liked,” said Kemp.

“Frome made an approach, we let them speak to him, they’ve done the deal and we wish him all the best.”
