GEORGE Rigg believes the interest surrounding him from the Football League has provided a welcome boost for his confidence.

The 21-year-old was believed to have been watched by a number of scouts from the upper reaches of the footballing spectrum during Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Braintree Town, and while he was flattered by the apparent interest, he insists there is no added pressure.

“It’s good press, and it can’t be bad,” said the former Stoke, Bristol City, and Exeter midfielder.

“It gives me confidence knowing that things like that are going on, you always see non-League players getting back into the Football League and it does happen.

“It doesn’t really put any more pressure on me, I prepare for every game in the same way and it just gives you a boost. I just try to stick to my natural game and do it that way.

“It gives me and all the boys confidence and hopefully we can go on now and get promotion.”

The talented midfielder was part of the Terras’ line-up that endured 120 minutes in an eight-goal FA Cup thriller at Braintree Town on Tuesday night.

And even though his side came out on the wrong side of the 5-3 scoreline in the replay, Rigg believes it was a night to remember, mainly down to the travelling Terras’ support.

He added: “All the boys put in a great shift and all the fans up there were brilliant, they got us going and helped us through.

“The fans were fantastic, to have them there when we were 3-1 down really helped us to come back and it was a credit to them.

“When we got it back to 3-3 I thought we could push on and do it but when we conceded an early goal in extra time it was tough from then, we were trying to chase it and they were quick up front on the counter.

“We wanted to get as far as we could and put 100 per cent effort in, it just didn’t happen for us, we couldn’t have done any more and we weren’t too disheartened because everyone put a real shift in.

“We can hopefully crack on now and take that little bit of experience from the cup into the league and the FA Trophy as well.”

* The club will be holding a fans’ forum at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (6pm) after their FA Trophy fixture with Shortwood United.

The chairman, directors and manager Jason Matthews will all be present.
