WIMBORNE III 7 WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 40

BRYN Llewellyn, George Carter and Gordon Tye all crossed for two tries as Weymouth & Portland breezed to victory against Wimborne Thirds.

The hosts had no answer to the visitors’ power and pace, though they did get on the scoreboard courtesy of a penalty try.

Kevin Leatham’s side, beaten by Swanage & Wareham last time out, were always in control of the Dorset & Wilts Two South clash.

And it was a memorable day in particular for Carter, whose try brace came after he had been out for several weeks with knee ligament damage.

“We were conscious we hadn’t been starting games quickly enough but at Wimborne we put that right,” said skipper Leatham.

“We scored a couple of tries quite early and controlled the match after that.

“There was a bit of indiscipline in the second half when we went down to 14 men but then we came back strongly towards the end.”

Lewellyn, who it was thought wouldn’t be available for the game, added the remaining points with his boot.

Weymouth & Portland remain sixth in the table, sandwiched between Bridport and Dorchester Seconds.

The Monmouth Avenue outfit do not have a game this weekend so will have to wait until next Saturday, and a trip to Ellingham & Ringwood Seconds, before they return to action.
