SHAFTESBURY TOWN 2 BRIDPORT RESERVES 0

FRUSTRATED boss Robin Townsend saw his side record their ninth loss of their Dorset Premier League campaign, as individual errors again cost the Bees at Shaftesbury.

Bridport switched off twice when defending set-pieces during the opening period, and although Jack Scovell came close after the break with a chance that was cleared off the line, Townsend was left disappointed by his side’s lacklustre display.

“Two set-pieces undid us really,” he said. “One was a free header from about 12 yards.

“To be fair to the lad, he headed it straight in the top corner, but we said before the game that we could not afford to make these individual mistakes because they are so costly.

“We have given the guy a free header again for the second goal, there were two of our lads there watching the ball and not challenging.

“I was very disappointed at that point.”

The Bees also lost Tom Fouracre after 30 minutes through injury and Townsend was left puzzled by his side’s inconsistency, as they currently lie 11th in the table.

“Perhaps if we had got one we may have got something from the game, but overall it’s just another disappointing performance,” he added.

“We had a few out, but the team we had should have got something from the game.

“I can’t put my finger on it. I have been saying this for the past two years, I don’t know why we are where we are because we have got a good side.

“We put in a good performance one week and we don’t seem to carry that on, and individual mistakes are costing us.”

Richard Bryant and Rob Froud were the men who found the net for the home side.

Bridport will be without Ben Clarke for their Dorset Senior Trophy quarter-final against Lytchett Red Triangle at St Mary’s Field on Saturday.
