HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE 5 WEYMOUTH 0

WEYMOUTH were second best by a fair distance in their FA Trophy first round replay at Westleigh Park, as they bowed out to Havant & Waterlooville.

Conceding three goals inside the opening 25 minutes, the Terras were rocked from the outset and could do nothing to stop their Vanarama South counterparts from booking a tie against Dover Athletic in the next round, and scooping £5,000 prize money in the process.

The visitors stuck with the same starting XI that secured a 1-1 draw when the sides met at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday, but Tim Sills returned to the bench to replace the injured Chris Shephard.

Gareth Will also got the call to replace Luke Winsper, who was struggling with an ongoing foot injury.

The hosts were happy to welcome back winger Ben Swallow to their ranks after he served a suspension at the weekend, and he came straight into their line up to replace Nic Ciardini, who dropped to the bench.

And it didn’t take long for Hawks’ scorer at the weekend Bradley Bubb to attempt to beat player-manager Jason Matthews in the Weymouth goal, as he worked the player-boss with the first shot of the game inside two minutes.

Swallow’s corner was then headed back across goal by Ed Harris but no Havant player could meet the ball inside the area.

The home side enjoyed a vast amount of possession early on and their pressure told on 13 minutes.

Frontman Ben Wright applied a clinical finish from inside the area which gave Matthews no chance, this after Dan Blanchett’s run created space down the left-hand side.

And the Hawks’ marksman was at it again five minutes later when he tapped in after Havant beat the Terras’ offside trap to double their lead.

The home side were running riot at this point and former AFC Bournemouth man Brian Stock then got in on the act.

Wright turned provider on the counter as he broke down the left and found the midfielder, who stroked the ball into the back of the net from 18 yards out.

Steve Colwell, man of the match for the Terras’ in the first fixture, then hit a sublime volley which home goalkeeper Ryan Young flew to his left to stop.

Weymouth then took action as experienced striker Tim Sills was introduced after just 25 minutes replacing Jordan Copp.

With nothing to lose, Ashley Wells then spurned arguably Weymouth’s best chance as he failed to hit the target at the back post from a fizzing ball across goal.

Stewart Yetton, a fitness doubt before the contest, was thwarted by a good save from Young, and from the resulting corner Chris McPhee glanced a header over the crossbar.

But the Terras were living dangerously, and another Bubb effort ricocheted off the inside of a post and eventually fell to safety.

Following the break, Swallow was causing problems down the flanks once again as his cross found Wright, but he put the ball into the side netting.

Boss Matthews’ misery was then summed up as Scott Donnelly got his name on the scoresheet just short of the hour mark, his free-kick bobbling past the Terras’ stopper.

Young, who was superb throughout the two games, then pulled off another scintillating stop to deny George Rigg from close range, before Yetton hobbled off to be replaced by Conor Jevon.

Swallow then capped a fine display eight minutes from time when he grabbed a goal of his own.

Matthews could only parry Bubb’s strike on to a post and Swallow was there to add Havant’s fifth.
