STEWART Yetton would not hesitate taking another spot-kick for the Terras but has accepted Jason Matthews’ decision to drop him as the team’s designated penalty taker.

The Weymouth captain took to Twitter following Tuesday’s defeat of St Neots to say he had “officially sacked” himself from the role after missing his third penalty of the season during the 1-0 win.

Yetton, who netted his 21st league goal of the campaign against the Saints, was also off target from 12 yards in the victories over Billericay and Biggleswade in October and December respectively.

Fortunately for Yetton, none of his misses proved costly for Weymouth, but it seems Matthews wants a change.

“I spoke to Jase and said I was more than happy to keep taking them but I wasn’t going to sulk if he wanted to give the penalties to someone else,” he told Echosport.

“We’ve got some good penalty takers in the squad and if I was the manager I’d take a person off them who had missed three.

“As far as I’m aware I’m off them now but Jase knows I will certainly step up if he needs me to.

“Thankfully the three I’ve missed haven’t cost us. It would have felt horrendous if St Neots had scored after I’d missed on Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, Yetton yesterday had stitches in a head wound suffered against Paulton taken out.

And after being replaced as a precaution late in Tuesday’s game because of a sore back, Yetton said he will be fit and raring to go for Saturday’s clash with Chippenham.
