PORTLAND youngster Jay Lelliott enjoyed medal success at the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) Nationals.

The former Thomas Hardye School pupil won silver in the men’s 200m freestyle as well as finishing fifth in the men’s 400m freestyle relay with the University of Bath.

“I’m happy with silver – I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my shoulder recently and I just started a new batch of workouts and exercises,” he said.

“So I’m struggling a little bit with the catch but I have to be pleased with that performance – it’s getting more solid, so if I can sort that out then I’ll be good to go.

“BUCS is an event I love – the great thing about it is that I’ve got so many friends from my home club that I get to see here, now that they’ve gone to university.”
