MORE than 200 medals, ribbons and trophies were handed out to Tornadoes of South Dorset members at a packed presentation night hosted by Wellworthy Sports & Social Club.

Tornadoes’ chairman Julie Samouelle got proceedings underway as she thanked everyone for their continued support, before giving an overview of the feats achieved throughout the past year.

Former club members Jay Lelliott and triathlete Chris Perham were given special mentions as well as Lily Young, who was crowned the under-16 stand-up paddleboarding world champion.

Samouelle also congratulated the Tornadoes’ Jurassic League team on their success at each of the four galas, as they clinched the overall title.

The Novice League team also had a successful campaign, coming third overall with a number of personal best times.

Tornadoes also returned to the National Arena League competition after missing a season and did fantastically well to reach the divisional final.

Other members who had success in the pool but away from the club were Jenny Scott and Bethan Whittall. The pair reached the secondary schools national final and got to swim in the Olympic pool in London.

This is also the venue for the swimming leg of the National Schools Biathlon Championships where Tabitha Samouelle and Phoebe Mills will be competing this month.

Scott and Charlie Samouelle also qualified for the English National Swimming Championships.

Maria Lochrie took the plaudits for gaining her level one and two diving instructor qualifications, while youngster Lily Cole was awarded the President’s Cup as the best overall diver – she was one of only two divers outside Wessex Dive Club to participate in the County Championships.
