CHERITON FITZPAINE 0 LYME REGIS 5

THE Seasiders produced some of their best football of the season, and Dominic Rowe scored what was arguably the side’s goal of the campaign so far, in a comfortable win at Cheriton Fitzpaine.

Lyme were on fire in the first 45 minutes as they ran the hosts ragged and took a 2-0 lead into the half-time interval.

Joel Gostling and Mark Bailey caught the home side napping with a quick corner and Joe Bond headed in the latter’s cross on 10 minutes.

Then Julien Simier took another short corner to Bailey, he back-heeled the ball to Rowe, and the Lyme ace fired a shot into the top corner for what boss Tim Edwards feels is the pick of the Seasiders’ goals this term.

Bond added a third after the break, the Cheriton keeper let a Bailey free-kick trickle over the line for 4-0, and then Lee Cleal converted from close range with 20 minutes left.

“We played really well, especially in the first half,” said Edwards. “It was probably the best we have played all season.

“We took five minutes to settle but after that we tore them apart and created chance after chance.”

Lyme’s next Devon & Exeter League Division Three fixture is at Woodbury this Saturday (3pm), and it is a game Edwards feels could be the toughest of his side’s run-in.

Meanwhile, Lyme Bantams, who lost 2-0 to Millwey Rise in the Arthur Gage Cup last weekend, visit Barrington in Perry Street Division One on Saturday.
