WEY Valley School pupil Beth McSevney has been awarded with a youth advisor role in conjunction with England Netball.

The 15-year-old, who has represented South West Dorset League team WeySports for the last 12 months, will now be tasked with evaluating proposals and ideas put forward by the national governing body, in a bid to improve the game in the area.

And McSevney, who has captained the WeySports’ second team as well as playing wing-attack and wing-defence for the club, is delighted to have taken on the task.

She said: “I came across the youth advisor role when doing research for my English GCSE. After reading into it, I decided to apply for the role, unknowingly to everyone else.

“I receive an email every six weeks.

I then have to evaluate and review proposals, ideas and existing England Netball programmes. This might include gathering opinions, coaching ideas, rules and suggesting ways to improve safeguarding.

“I wanted to apply because I thought it would be a great way to get more involved with netball. It is a favourite sport of mine and something I hope to continue for years to come.

“I’ll get the chance to enhance my CV and be a part of today’s netball society. It was too much of a good opportunity to let go.”

Proud of the youngster’s achievement, WeySports’ Juliette Frampton said: “Beth applied for it off her own back without anyone knowing.

“She gets emails with surveys and drills to try from England Netball and she will try them out with the youth netball in our area, either in the league or the junior clubs.

“Anyone who is between the ages of seven and 18 will be accessed in this with Beth taking on the role, I am really proud of her. It is a good thing to raise the profile of our club and she is also on the South West Dorset Netball Committee as well.”

The 15-year-old has also scooped the club woman award for WeySports as voted by her team-mates.
