DORCHESTER Ladies’ stalwart Clare Bagwell was given the award for outstanding service as a player in Dorset football at the Dorset FA’s Annual Volunteers presentation evening.

Bagwell has turned out for the county town club for almost 20 years, and is a highly popular member of the squad.

Commenting on the Dorchester ace, a statement from the Dorset FA said: “Those that have played with, or against, her will acknowledge that she is one of the best players that has ever competed in the Dorset Women’s League.

“She was also a highly valued member of the Dorset Women’s representative team and Clare captained the side on many occasions.

“Although Clare had the skill and ability to play at a higher level, she has always remained loyal to Dorchester.

“Clare’s team-mates hold her in high esteem and appreciate the positive commitments and encouragement she gives both on and off the pitch.”

The Magpies’ ace received her award at Bulbury Woods Golf Club from Andy Mercer, the vice-chairman of the Dorset County FA Council.

There were also a host of other award winners who were celebrating on the night.

The Young Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Tom Filkin, who was nominated by Blandford United Youth.
