A PORTLAND football club is £900 better off following a massively successful fundraiser.

Sisters Miranda Kane and Lucinda Helms raised the sum for Harlequin & Weston Sports through a comedy night at the Kimberlin Club.

The siblings had originally set themselves a target of £500 but far exceeded that figure, and they have already planned another evening of laughs for next month.

With Miranda having contacts on the London comedy circuit, the sisters were able to attract the likes of Dan Nicholas, Vicky Stone and Mark Cram to perform on Portland.

Lucinda, whose son plays for one of the club’s teams, said: “The club sells raffle tickets to raise money but we thought we could double or triple what they get from that.

“We only wanted to raise £500 so to make £900 was brilliant as the club is run through donations.

“Lots of things need doing, like a new roof for the changing rooms.”

The second comedy night, for over-18s only, is set for Saturday, April 25 (7.30pm) and tickets cost £10.

They can be bought from the Kimberlin Club or through the website portlandcomedy.co.uk
