LLOYD Surcouf described his Good Friday fundraiser at Dorchester RFC was an "excellent day" for the club.

A host of familiar faces returned as a Surcouf XV took on a Dorchester XV in an exhibition match at Coburg Road to raise funds for the county town outfit.

And Surcouf, whose team triumphed on the day, felt it could not have gone better.

“It was an excellent day for the club,” he told Echosport. “There were a lot of old heads that came back to the club and it was a really successful event.

“I’d like to thank Dave Allen, who refereed on his Easter break, everyone who played for the Dorchester XV and the Surcouf XV, and everyone who supported the day, which was a huge amount of people.

“The other nice thing was Brian Gower, who is 63 and played last year, managed to play with his three sons at the same time on this occasion, it was a real family day.”

Speaking about the game itself, event organiser Surcouf added: “It was quite physical. I played the first and the last quarter.

“I can’t remember the final score but we won quite well, and some people played so well it was like they had never been away.

“It was all for the club because it is so difficult to raise funds.

“My heart has been in it for years and I am heavily involved in the club, it is just a really good fundraiser to help us with running costs.

“We have had some huge costs lately with the boilers failing. We have had to replace them and get new floodlights.

“It was also to raise funds to get disabled access down to the lower pitches.”

Live music was provided by Ricky Stevenson and the Tom Alford Band, while there was also a hog roast and barbecue on the day.
