HEAD coach Paul Harding says his Weymouth & Portland players are already looking forward to next season as they bid to finish this one on a high tomorrow.

The seaside team go for a fifth successive win when they bring the curtain down on their Dorset & Wilts Two South campaign at home against Puddletown (3pm).

And Harding has told Echosport that the squad will be sorry to see the term come to an end given their excellent run of form since the turn of the year.

“I know when I was playing that when you get the end of the season you are tired, your body has taken a bit of a bashing, and you are looking for a break,” he said.

“My players will have an opportunity for a break after this weekend but they are all asking about when we are starting back for next season.

“They’re sorry this season is ending and a lot of them are already talking about pre-season in the summer.

“I think we have progressed quite well since I’ve come back to the club and I’ve seen a lot of positives from a number of the players, and they just want to keep playing.

“We’ll probably look to come back at the start of July and build up gently from there.”

Harding confirmed that he will again experiment with Ryan Lewendon at scrum-half tomorrow.

Lewendon impressed the Weymouth & Portland chief when he played there for 40 minutes during the win over Ellingham & Ringwood last month.

“We’ll be looking to give Ryan at least another half at scrum-half, provided we don’t get any injuries in other positions” added Harding.

“He did very well the last time he played there and it’s good for him to have another go.

“Gordon Tye is the incumbent scrum-half and he added a different dimension to our game when he came on for the second half of that match before.”

But Harding certainly expects a tough game against the Villagers at Monmouth Avenue.

“I played against them many times with good Weymouth sides and for some reason we only just managed to scrape through,” he said. “But I’m hoping we can end the season with a win and a good performance.”

Also in Two South, Dorchester Seconds go to Swanage & Wareham Seconds.

Those two clubs’ first XVs meet in Southern Counties South as Dorchester welcome the league champions to Coburg Road.

Meanwhile, Weymouth & Portland Seconds travel to Poole in Dorset & Wilts Three South. All games kick-off at 3pm.
