SIMON Mitchem is looking for a stand-out performance from a member of his squad to help them pull off a victory against Parley at the Rec tomorrow (1pm).

The Dorchester captain, whose side only possess one league win to their name so far this summer, will lock horns with a Parley outfit who will be smarting after two successive league defeats.

And while he took the positives out of his side’s reverse against Broadstone last Saturday, Mitchem realises the importance of a Dorchester player standing out, especially with the bat.

Cricket is a team game but it’s very individual as well. It would be brilliant if someone could score a hundred, it wouldn’t matter to me who it was and if someone does it, you have a great chance of winning the game,” he told Echosport.

“If we bat first and get a good total on the board we have the bowlers to do well and we are playing good cricket. We just need that all-round performance to get us over the line.

“Parley’s youngsters are still very good players and we are under no illusions, whatever side they put out it is going to be a tough game. We are looking forward to it.

“You expect them to be strong with bat and ball. They have a reputation of being there or thereabouts every year so we are going to go out there, enjoy our cricket and give it our all.”

Two key men missing in the Dorchester ranks this weekend are former skipper Dan Belt and Quenton Miller, meaning Steve Clifford and Rob Waite are likely to come in.

James Dunham is also expected to return and boost the bowling department for the county town side.

The Dorchester captain, whose team have a 15-point advantage over Weymouth at present, also gave his views after the Seasiders announced their Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to discuss their future.

Expressing his sympathy for their Ridgeway neighbours, Mitchem added: “Weymouth are our rivals but it’s sad to see really. I wouldn’t want to see any cricket team go through it.

“We have had good games with Weymouth over the years and I have played with and against a lot of the Weymouth lads.

“It’s not good for Dorset cricket.”
