JASON Matthews is set to cast his eye over two more trialists when the Terras visit Taunton Town for a pre-season friendly this evening (7.45pm).

On the hunt for a striker to bolster his attacking options, the Terras’ chief is due to take a look at new faces in the form of Kailan Gould and former Plymouth Argyle man Josh Grant.

He told Echosport: “We have two trialists coming in who are forwards with good pedigrees. We will take a look at them, one will start and we will see how he gets on with Yetts (Stewart Yetton) up front.

“Josh was at Plymouth Argyle before getting a scholarship in America. He has come back now and is looking for a club.

“He wants to have a look at us and it’s nice when you have lads of that pedigree wanting to have a look.

“We are getting to what you could say is the business end of pre-season now and I am nearing to knowing what I fully want. I feel confident going into the new season.”

The Weymouth chief also gave an update on trialist Matt Buse, who he revealed is close to joining on a non-contract deal. “Matt would probably like to stay with us and credit to him,” he added.

“He will probably be offered non-contract terms. At this moment in time the chairman is away so I need to speak to him.”

And while Weymouth are still looking to put the finishing touches to their ranks, player-manager Matthews will not be risking midfielder Matt Molesley this evening after the former Cherries’ man picked up a knee problem during the club’s pre-season tournament last weekend.

“Mark jarred his knee in the Bournemouth game and we took him off as a precaution,” the Terras’ boss said.

“He has seen the physio and he will be out for around a week. That’s not ideal but it could have been a lot worse.”

Jordan Copp, who did not feature last Saturday with a tight hamstring, is touch and go to take part tonight.

Meanwhile, after Echosport revealed earlier this week that former chairman Nigel Biddlecombe was no longer a Weymouth director, Matthews is keen to keep focused on playing matters ahead of the new season and insists the club’s board is right behind him.

“I am not too worried about what goes on off the pitch,” he claimed. “All I know is that the club is in good hands and being run like a proper football club.

“I would like to put on record that I am getting backed 200 per cent by Chris (Pugsley, chairman). He is doing all he can to make sure we are getting a good team on the pitch and that’s all you can ask from the chairman as a manager.

“We will endeavour to have a fans’ forum before the season starts for everyone to air their views.

“I will be making sure that board members are there as well as my coaching staff. I urge people to come and give their views face-to-face.”

The Terras also confirmed to Echosport yesterday that vice-chairman Tony Greaves is still on the Weymouth board, while Steve Mills has been added as a director.
