WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1 BALTI SPORTS 0

A STRIKE from Lloyd Beals ensured Weymouth Reserves poured cold water on Balti Sports’ hot streak in the Dorset Premier League.

Beals popped up during the second period to secure Bradley Asagba’s second competitive win in charge.

This was after the hosts had spurned a number of opportunities to take the lead at the Bob Lucas Stadium. There was also two dismissals and a host of yellow cards throughout the contest.

Terras first-team squad member Ashley Wells also got 90 minutes under his belt on the right wing.

Reacting to the victory over Marco Nott's men, Asagba told Echosport: “A win is a win and we have kept a clean sheet. That was the most pleasing part of the performance.

“We looked solid but from our point of view we know we can play a lot better.

“Without being disrespectful to them, we knew it was going to be their cup final and they were going to be incredibly keen to win and stick one over Weymouth.”

Speaking about Wells’ inclusion, the reserves’ chief added: “He has been short of match practice so we gave him a run out and he played right midfield.

“He has plenty of energy and, from the first team’s point of view, they will be pleased that he got 90 minutes ahead of the games they have got coming up.

“We are there to benefit the first team even though we have our own objectives.”

Reflecting on his side’s defeat, Balti boss Nott added: “I thought it was a fair result and it was a typical derby.

“We were very poor in the first half, we defended well but we didn’t make use of the ball.

“They are a good side and it was a good learning curve for us. We will learn more from a game like that than the 5-0 win last Saturday.”

The Terras now switch their focus to a home clash with Westland Sports tomorrow, while Balti will look to bounce back when they host Shaftesbury Town at Cranford Avenue (both 3pm).

Terras: Boore, Sharpe, Butcher, Butcher, Anstey, Michie, Cullingford, Ayley (Peart), Beals (Head), Zima (Jansz-Baker), Wells, Jevon. Subs not used: Bergin, Jones.

Meanwhile, Shaun Annetts' Bridport Reserves entertain Hamworthy Recreation at St Mary's Field tomorrow (3pm).

The Bees are hoping to end a run of three games without a win and they too will try to respond to a midweek defeat.

Blandford United, 3-1 winners over Cranborne on Wednesday, travel to South Cheriton United (3pm).
