WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3 WESTLAND SPORTS 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves remain the only unbeaten side in the Dorset Premier League after a comfortable victory over Westland Sports.

Terras’ boss Bradley Asagba commended an ‘exceptional’ performance from his side as they managed to put three past Westland, despite being reduced to 10 men.

Captain Lee Sharpe had his game cut short after half an hour for a two-footed challenge in the opposition’s half, which gave the referee no option but to send him off.

A goalless first 45 minutes was matched with equally grey weather, but as the rain came pouring down in the second period, so did the chances for Weymouth.

James Bergin and Conor Jevon should have put the Terras ahead just after the break, with a goalmouth scramble that resulted only in a corner.

Substitute Dan Peart’s shot stung the fingers of Westland keeper Luke Silcox minutes later and the corner that followed, also taken by Peart, deflected into the net, giving Weymouth the lead just after the hour, with Matt Head the scorer.

The home side doubled their advantage shortly afterwards after some excellent skill and a coollyplaced finish from Jevon.

With a two-goal cushion, the Terras then got behind the ball for the last 20 minutes as Westland came forward, but home goalkeeper Steve Boore was hardly troubled.

Another great individual effort from Jevon sealed the win, bagging him a brace with some similarly astute trickery in the 87th minute.

Reflecting on the game, Asagba said: “After the sending off it changed things and it was about seeing out the half and regrouping, which we did comfortably.

“I knew it was a match where if we were on our game we’d get maximum points from it.

“I felt confident that we could always score. As long as we kept a clean sheet, we’ve got players with the ability and a strong bench.”

Westland boss Stuart Smith said: “We were beaten by the better side, I thought. I said to the lads, I don’t think there was a time we were on top of the game either, even when they went down to 10 men.

“We didn’t break them down, we didn’t look clever enough. We didn’t work hard enough.”

The Terras now turn their attentions to a home clash with Sherborne Town Reserves on Wednesday night (7pm)

Terras: Boore, Sharpe, Michie, Cullingford, Anstey, Head, Beals (Zima), Jevon, Ayley (Peart), Bergin (Pidgley).
