BRIDPORT 2 CADBURY HEATH 1

BRIDPORT gained revenge over Cadbury Heath at St Mary’s Field while also maintaining their unblemished home league record.

The Heathens triumphed 3-2 in the reverse fixture last month but came up short against Trevor Senior’s men in west Dorset on Saturday.

Skipper Chris Clarke and Ryan Dovell netted either side of the break to put the Bees on their way to a fourth victory of the campaign.

Matt Huxley pulled a goal back from the penalty spot and the visitors threatened to grab an equaliser but the hosts did enough to claim the win.

“I thought we had the better chances over the course of the whole game,” said Senior. “We hit the target and their keeper made some good saves.

“Tom Richardson and Matt Condliffe had good shots which were saved and we took the lead midway through the first half.

“A long throw from Darren Watts was flicked on and Chris Clarke hit a volley from about 15 yards.

“He kept it down really well and it was a contender for goal of the season.

“Ashley Weeks had one save to make in the first half which he pushed over the bar.

“Within two minutes of the restart we were 2-1 up. Chris Clarke and Warren Byerley combined own the left and Ryan Dovell scored with a left-foot finish.”

The Bridport boss continued: “Cadbury Heath got into the game more as the half went on and Matt Condliffe conceded a penalty when he caught their player’s leg.

“They kept plugging away at us and caused us a few problems.

“Ashley Weeks had to make a couple of good saves towards the end of the game and we managed to hold on.”

With games in two cup competitions coming up over the next few weeks, Senior was thrilled to see his charges secure another three points before their break from Toolstation Western League Premier Division action.

“I said to the players before the game it was important we got the three points,” he said. “I thought we played some good football going forward and was pleased with how we defended.”

Bridport are ninth in the table with 13 points from seven games.
