SWINDON 60 SWANAGE & WAREHAM 22

SOUTH West One East leaders Swindon ran away with this game in the last quarter to condemn the Swans to a fourth successive league defeat.

The visitors led 17-15 at half-time but the hosts pulled clear in the second period to secure a resounding bonus-point victory.

Swanage & Wareham got off to their usual sluggish start and gave away a try inside the first couple of minutes.

This was converted and then followed up with a second score from the restart – the home side added a penalty soon after to take a 12-0 lead.

However, Phil Graves slotted a penalty of his own to put the Swans on the scoreboard and two minutes later winger Callum Young crossed out wide.

Graves added the conversion and the deficit was now down to two at 12-10.

From the restart the ball went to Swans number-eight Kirk Jones, he was tackled close to the try line, and second row Jack Hogg scooped up the ball to touch down. Graves’ conversion made it 17-12 to the Swans.

After landing another three-pointer before break, Swindon regained the initiative early in the second half with a second try.

The heavier Swindon pack seemed to take control of the game after that and two further tries extended their lead to 34-17.

Swans’ centre Matt Roberts responded with a score out wide but as the visiting pack ran out of steam, the Swindon team upped their game ran in four more tries before the final whistle.

Elsewhere, the Swans’ second XV lost 46-22 to Warminster and the thirds beat Salisbury Thirds 27-17.
