MARNHULL RESERVES 1

PORTLAND TOWN B 6

PORTLAND Town B team thrashed Marnhull Reserves to go second Dorset Division Five in a game which also saw star player Alex Counter become only the second player in the club’s history to score more than 100 goals - a feat which he has accomplished in only 83 games.

With the score at 1-1 between the sides at the break, Town manager Paul Barber made a tactical change at half-time, moving Counter from the left into his favoured position of central striker. Straight away town were on the front foot.

Lewis Dolan brought a renewed appetite to the Town team and he and Luke Barber worked hard to unlock Marnhull’s defence for Town’s and Paul Cole’s second goal of the game.

Soon after, Counter and Cole combined and the latter set Counter through for him to smash home his 100th goal for the club. This was quickly followed by his 101st to make it 4-1 and wrap the game up for the visitors.

Cole then sealed his hat-trick and Counter then completed the rout to ensure Marnhull were hit for six.

Following the victory manager Paul Barber said: “My congratulations go to Alex Counter for reaching this landmark in such a short period of time, it is a fantastic achievement.’’
