GARY Bailey has bolstered his Portland United ranks by snapping up the services of Charlie Holland.

The former Terra, who has been back training with the Blues, is expected to go straight into the Portland squad when they host Alton Town at Grove Corner tomorrow (3pm).

“Charlie is back in the area and has re-joined the club. He will be in the squad,” manager Bailey told Echosport.

“Charlie was a full member of our squad last season and played a big part in getting us into the position where we could get ourselves promoted.

“We were sorry to see him go in the summer but as soon as we knew he was back in the area we didn’t hesitate. He has always enjoyed his time with the club and couldn’t wait to sign.

“We trust him, he’s a familiar face, and a great asset to have back at the club.”

There is a case of one in and one out for the Blues however, as winger Ed Bastick jetted off to go travelling earlier this week and is not expected back until the summer.

Bailey added: “Ed flew out on Tuesday and we wish him well. He has been a great servant to us and is coming back, it’s not like he has left the club and that’s the last we will see of Ed.”

The last time Portland took on Alton they ran out 4-1 winners away from home thanks to goals from Ross Doidge, Carl McClements and a brace for Aiden Jackson.

Doidge is “very doubtful” this time around according to the Blues’ manager after picking up a thigh injury in training.
