DORCHESTER Town manager Mark Jermyn feels his side are progressing well as they continued their build up to the new season with a 3-2 win over Backfield & Langley at the Avenue.

Goals from Chris Dillon, trialist Aldo Lopes and Nathan Walker helped the Magpies to their first win of pre-season against the Wessex League outfit, who named three ex-Weymouth players in their starting line-up.

Jermyn, who played the full 90 minutes, feels he is starting to get the measure of his new charges, but he felt his players didn’t match the standards of their 1-0 defeat to Yeovil Town on Tuesday night.

After the game, he told Echosport: “I have mixed feelings about the game. I’m not bothered about the result, but I felt that we took our foot off the gas.

“We had a little bit more in us than we showed. Having said that against a good outfit, Nick Swann and Owen Nicholson came on and made an impact.

“There are some positives to take, we had some good passages of play and we are building on the foundations that we have already got.”

The Magpies’ boss added: “With every passing training session and game, we are starting to see the relationships between players, and they are starting to understand our shape.

“It’s about partnerships and we have that time to build on that.”

Every trialist got a run out in the victory, however, notable by his absence was Mario Mateus, who remains in Portugal due to personal reasons.

Speaking about the winger, Jermyn remarked: “We’re really looking forward to having him back, he will bring an extra dimension to the side.

“But family always comes first and we wish him all the best.”
