THERE has been a full entry for the 33rd Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic in both the men’s and women’s events, writes Graeme Sawyer.
The Classic takes place over 10 courts on July 30-31.
Both competitions have yet again attracted quality fields including Olympians and great Britain players as well as a number of teams from Europe.
Veteran 1996 Olympian Mo Glover will take part in the women’s competition. Glover, who is originally from Weymouth, will team up this year with five-time winner of the Classic, Denise Austin.
In the men’s event, the favourites could be the New Zealand/American combination of Kirk Pitman and Taylor Wilson, both former Classic winners.
Next Friday, from 2pm, there is a warm-up event for the Classic when up and coming and local players get to compete in a development event on the Classic site.
*In the Weymouth League, Ryan Stout and Sean Hendry took this week’s competition defeating Terry Oldrid and Dave James 21-14 in the final. In all 40 players have been competing in the league each Tuesday evening, followed on a Wednesday evening by coaching for women players.
