NORTH DORSET II 12

DORCHESTER made it two wins from two in Dorset & Wilts One South with another workmanlike victory over their Dorset rivals.

The hosts had the best possible start when, in their very first attack, following a dominant scrum, full-back James Spensley carved his way through the visitors’ defence to touch down by the posts.

George Foot added the conversion to open up a seven-point lead.

As last week, Dorchester were totally dominant in the set scrum but struggled in the line-out.

After 15 minutes, Dorchester added a second try, number eight Steve Tucker was on hand to take Rich Deakin’s offload after North Dorset had dropped the ball in their own 22. Again Foot added the extras.

It was no surprise that the third try was a penalty try, the visitors offending as they were shunted back over their line in yet another scrum.

Foot popped over the simple conversion to extend the lead to 21 points.

Shortly before the break, prop Duncan Inwood crossed for the bonus point try and Dorchester reached half-time looking very comfortable.

However, North Dorset were in no mood to throw in the towel and, electing to throw the ball about from everywhere, made a real game of the second half.

The visitors scored two tries, one of which was converted, and Dorchester’s only reply was a converted try from centre Matt Fry.

Dorchester did squander a number of chances, failing to take advantage of several two-on-one opportunities, as once again they were not clinical enough in their finishing.
