JASON Matthews hailed what he described as “pretty much a perfect performance” from his players, as they mauled Stratford Town 5-0 away from home on Saturday.

Weymouth were dominant throughout at the DCS Stadium, in a display that saw them record back-to-back wins in all competitions.

Just more than a week ago, boss Matthews admitted to Echosport “we haven’t created out-and-out chances all season”, with his side having only scored nine league goals in as many games throughout the campaign.

But, with a change of formation and a pair of victories since then, Weymouth have seemingly clicked into gear, scoring eight in their last two outings.

Speaking about Saturday’s emphatic victory, in which Chris Shephard, Sam Jordan and Dan Smith all found the net, the Terras’ player-manager said: “It was a decent result and I was really pleased – it was pretty much a perfect performance.

“We really took the game to them in the first 25 minutes. You could see right from the off that we meant business.

“In the second half I felt we really took the game to them again and it showed that, by having a squad, getting people off the bench early doors made a difference and we got the goals to complete the win.”

Asked about his team’s resurgence in goalscoring form of late, Matthews said: “I didn’t stop believing. Obviously a few people did. Around 10 days ago we were kicking ourselves after losing to Slough when we played really well.

“I felt that it had been coming for a while and, like I have said before, we have had some incredibly tough games.

“On the whole, I feel our away form has been superb.”
