PORTLAND United manager Gary Bailey wants his side to keep their foot down as they go in search of their sixth win in seven games at home against Newport (IoW) tomorrow (2pm).

The game is kicking off an hour earlier than usual to help Newport with their travel plans as Bailey looks set to name a similar side to the one that beat Moneyfields at the Grove last weekend.

The Blues have been in great form of late, with their only blemish coming in a narrow loss to Sholing last week.

Now, Bailey wants his team to carry on where they left off last time out against a side that the manager knows will pose a threat.

He told Echosport: “Newport are a really strong side. They’re a big club, who have played at a higher level.

“They had a great season last year and they’re league position (13th) is a bit false because of cup competitions.

“The travel won’t be a problem for them and they will be a tough test. We’re certainly not taking them lightly.”

Bailey has the luxury of having a near fully-fit squad at his disposal for the game.

Ryan McKechnie is back after four weeks away with work commitments however, Chris Clarke sustained an injury in Saturday’s win over Moneyfields and is questionable for the clash.

Their only other long term absentee is Sam Buckler, who broke his leg last season when at Bridport.

He has now stepped up his rehabilitation and is showing some encouraging signs.

Newport’s form has been patchy this season and they have recorded just one win in their last seven league games.

However, that came last time out in a 3-2 triumph over AFC Portchester.
