IT WAS to a packed clubhouse on the most celebrated night of the year for Weymouth Golf Club, when club captain Bob Mico presented the many awards achieved to its members.

The very successful junior section, coached by pro Des Lochrie, won many cups and awards, one of which was the prestigious Colin Chataway Team Trophy.

Jacob Tidswell, who reduced his handicap the most during this season, was awarded junior player of the year.

Talented 13-year-old Alex Johnson, who has a handicap of seven, picked up six awards which also included the South West Under-14s’ trophy.

The seniors’ team, captained by Gerald Hayes, won the Counties Carpetbarn Over-50s’ event

The ladies also won the Bramshaw Eclectic this year.

This eclectic competition, which alternates annually between Broadstone and Bramshaw, saw 36 teams entered from clubs in Dorset and Hampshire.

The two pairings of Di Loving (silver) with Carol Freeman (bronze) and Dilys Grant (silver) with Pat Ray (bronze) played exceptionally well to take the prize.

Club champions for 2016 were: Junior: Sean Dimmick, ladies’ champion: Dilys Grant, and club champion for the third year running: Tom Robson.
