DORCHESTER Town manager Craig Laird has said he is pleased with the steady progress being made in the transfer market.

Laird has expressed his desire to add depth to his squad to deal with the demands of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, and says that two signings are not far away.

He said: “We’ve gone in for a player with Conference South experience who will hopefully arrive after the weekend.

“He’s an attacking midfielder who’s looking to ply his trade at a lower level.

I’ve also got a bid in for a young striker who’s in the Conference, so he’ll come to us on loan and the feelers are out for other players to come in.”

Despite the progress being made, Laird is adamant that he won’t be making any hasty additions.

He said: “I’m very particular about who we try and get in, I always try to sign the right player.

“I’ve been offered lots of players at full-back and centre-back, but we’re strong in those positions so we’re looking to improve other areas.

“We’ll take our time with the signings and make sure they’re right.

“We need to strengthen the squad as a whole. I don’t look at the starting line-up, I look at the group of 16-20 players who will all play their part during the season.”

The progress being made is welcome news with the Magpies travelling to St Neots tomorrow (3pm) before heading to Hitchin Town on Monday evening.
