PEWSEY VALE 1

WEYMOUTH RES 6

WEYMOUTH Reserves were outstanding in recording an emphatic 6-1 victory at lowly Pewsey Vale on Saturday.

The result made it three games unbeaten for the Terras and manager Bradley Asagba was particularly pleased with such a good performance in difficult circumstances.

He said: “It was a really good result.

“It’s well documented that our squad is quite stretched so to go away from home and win 6-1 and be as dominant as we were is fantastic for us.

“Also having arrived there and looking at the pitch which was probably more suited to breeding livestock made it much more pleasing to play some really good football.

“It was pretty much as dominant as we could have wanted it to be to be honest.”

The game got off to an excellent start with the Terras’ capitalising on some early joy down the left side to play in Sean Stewart who delicately chipped the keeper from 18 yards.

Morgan Turner then doubled the lead with an excellent volley into the roof of the net following a whipped free-kick.

A rare Pewsey Vale counter then caught Weymouth off-guard when a hasty challenge led to a penalty which giving the hosts a route back into the game.

But that optimism was short-lived as Dom Panesar-Dower and Tiago Sa combined wonderfully to make it three, before Craig Michie scored from another set-piece.

It was that duo again as Panesar-Dower played a perfectly-weighted ball through to Sa who finished neatly to put the game firmly out of doubt.

But Asagba’s side saved the best for last as dangerman Sa played the ball through to Morgan Turner who executed a sublime lob to finish the afternoon in style.

The performance was a far cry from the side who made such a slow start to the season, and Asagba was keen to praise his young side for the way they have adapted.

He said: “Since November, our form has picked up but what’s most noticeable is there’s a bit more maturity and confidence about our play.

“We’re not as fragile as we were earlier in the season and although it’s taken longer than I would have liked it’s good to get to that level.

“We’ve got a platform to build on and we feel that we can now compete with anyone in the league.”
