CRAIG Laird has boosted his attacking options at the Avenue with the signing of Lewis Powell on loan from Weston-super-Mare.

The young forward joins Dorchester Town on a two-month deal from Weston and was previously part of Laird’s squad when the Magpies’ boss was at Yate Town.

Speaking about the addition, which brings the county town side some much-needed firepower up front, Laird told Echosport: “He is a good player and is going to be a really good player so we are pleased to get him.

“He is not playing for Weston for the moment, so we asked if we could get him, and Weston were kind enough to let us have him on loan.”

Asked what fans can expect to see from Powell, who is Laird’s first recruit since he became the Magpies’ manager, Laird replied: “He works hard across the front, he holds the ball up well and is a good link-up player, and he does score goals.

“He scored a lot of goals at youth level, a couple at Weston and a few for me at Yate and he is an honest player, you will get a good work-rate from him.

“Hopefully he will make us a better side so we can start thinking about winning games rather than just trying to not lose them. We have got to be a force to be reckoned with.”

Laird also hinted that there could be another arrival within the coming days.
