BASINGSTOKE TOWN UNDER-21s 1

DORCHESTER TOWN RES 6

DORCHESTER Town Reserves advanced to the quarter-finals of the John Stimpson Memorial Shield, after thumping Basingstoke Town 6-1 away from home.

The victory sets up an away tie with Tadley Calleva for a place in the last four of the tournament, and manager Rich Robson was extremely pleased with the team’s performance.

He said: “It was a very good performance all round. We went out with a bit of a fire in our belly in the first 15 minutes but things went a little flat before half-time after we conceded, so it was good timing to have the break.

“After that the side put in the best performance I’ve seen from a Dorchester Town Reserve side, it was absolutely perfect in all areas.”

Sol Ayunga was the star of the show after scoring a hat-trick, and Robson was keen to praise the attitude of the youngster.

He said: “It was an absolutely stunning team performance. Every one of them did their jobs to perfection in that second half, but you can’t take the plaudits away from Sol Ayunga for completing his hat-trick.

“The past three or four times he’s played for us he’s been outstanding.

"Since Craig (Laird) has come in he’s had a point to prove and we’ve spoken about increasing the tempo and energy in his play, his work-rate off the ball, and he’s really improved that recently.”
