WEEK Two of the WeySports Invitation Fast Five League got off to a great start, replicating the energy set out in the first week.

First up was Waterside against George Bar and Grill, with both teams keen to put their premiership skills to the test in this faster, more energetic version of the game.

Things started off evenly, with both teams using their experience and skill to control the game and keep the score fairly level throughout the first two quarters.

It was in the third quarter that Waterside started to pull ahead, working the ball effortlessly up the court to their shooters, Ali Holmes and Sue Lee, who put up some great shots to give Waterside a five-goal lead going into the last quarter.

George Bar and Grill, however, showed superb expertise on court and came back fighting in the final stages of the game, with Nicki Marsh and Kirsty Winning creating some excellent passages of play while moving around the court with speed and agility.

However, as Waterside had nominated this last quarter as their power play, allowing them to double all points scored, they maintained their lead throughout, walking away with an 18-11 goal victory.

Next up was WeySports against the Huskies with the hosts keen to pit themselves against the wealth of experience and talent that the Huskies brought to court.

Both teams started well, clearly enjoying the faster pace. WeySports’ Tasha Lund and Kirsty Holmes worked the court well, moving at lightning speed and skilfully moving the ball across the court, but the Huskies players were not to be outdone and showcased their abilities with effortless play and great movement.

By the half-time break, Huskies were only one goal ahead. The third quarter was the nominated power play quarter for both teams.

The Huskies were quick off the mark, scoring the first goals but WeySports were equally keen to utilise their power play and soon scored their first goal of the quarter.

By the end of the third period, the Huskies had managed to stretch their lead to five points, thanks to a fantastic four-pointer scored from outside the shooting circle.

The final period saw WeySports make a comeback, matching the Huskies goal for goal and managing to turnover a few of their opponent’s centres, but in the end it was the Huskies who came out victorious, with a 24-19 win.
