RECALLED loan keeper Tom McHale insisted “it’s been an absolute delight” to work with Terras’ boss Jason Matthews and his coaching staff during his time with the club.

The talented gloveman returned to parent club Truro City in midweek and played 90 minutes for the Tigers in their 2-0 defeat at Poole Town.

Weymouth manager Matthews was a spectator at that game, and, speaking to Echosport, McHale expressed his thanks to the Terras’ chief for his support.

“It’s a lot different having a goalkeeper as a manager,” he said.

“Jase is a very experienced goalkeeper, he has got a lot of knowledge and it’s been an absolute delight for me to pick off that knowledge.

“He has been brilliant with me in the dressing room, helped me along my way and if I ever need any help he is a first point of call.

“Since I have been recalled Jase has been in touch and said, if I ever need anything, he will be the first one to take the call from me.

“Having Jase and Paul (Maitland, goalkeeping coach) gave me a lot of things to work on and they have helped me massively behind the scenes.

“Jase and Paul being goalkeepers themselves were always on hand to help me.

“I’d also like to extend my thanks to Mark Molesley and Mick Greeno – they have been brilliant.”

Matthews took the gamble to draft McHale into his squad from the Tigers in December – a decision that proved a massive hit during the second half of the campaign.

And reflecting on his spell at the Bob Lucas Stadium, McHale spoke out to thank the club as a whole for the opportunity to showcase his skills.

“It’s obviously been a massive shop window for myself,” he added.

“To be able to play 22 games for such a big club and give myself the best chance to get back in the Truro side, it’s been a really exciting journey for me at Weymouth.

“Being 21 years old is still very young for a keeper and it is about the game time you play – you can’t just sit on the bench all season and expect to be a world beater as soon as you start playing.

“I don’t think I would be in this position now without Weymouth taking me on loan.”

Without McHale, the Terras are set to host Kings Langley at home in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).

Jake Wannell is expected to be back in the Weymouth squad after injury.
