DORSET managed to get over the winning line with two wickets to spare in their opening friendly of the season against Wiltshire at North Perrott.

Having won the toss and elected to field first, the hosts would have been happy with their work to restrict the visitors to just 195, bowling them out in 47.5 overs.

Opening bowler Mark Wolstenholme claimed 3-54 from nine overs, while there were two wickets each for Jigar Naik, Sam Thomson and James Hayman as well as a run-out.

But the Dorset innings got off to a torrid start in reply.

After club professional Naik departed for a duck on his debut, Chris Park’s side found themselves reeling on 28-4.

Alex Eckland then fell for just one but Luke Webb and Thomson’s stand of 102 revived Dorset’s hopes of victory before the former was trapped leg before on 58.

With Thomson and skipper Park at the crease, Dorset needed 42 for victory off the final 10 overs with four wickets in hand.

In the end, it was left to Hayman and Wolstenholme to guide the home team to victory.
