BEAMINSTER 174 (5pts) lost to KINGSTON LACY 178-4 (20pts) by six wickets
DALE Coghlan was the hero for Kingston Lacy as they overcame Beaminster by six wickets in County Division Three on Saturday.
A match-winning 92 not out from the opening batsman, which included no fewer than 14 boundaries, guided his team past their 175-run target set by Beaminster earlier in the day.
After losing the toss, all of Beaminster’s main batsmen failed to build a substantial innings on their own surface.
Chris Park top scored with 39 while Simon Jones (26) and Ali Crawford (24) looked well set before being caught.
Although the middle and late-order batsmen contributed to help boost the hosts’ total, an inadequate score was set as Beaminster were bowled out in the 44th over.
In pursuit, Lacy lost four wickets but Coghlan stood firm to propel his side to victory. Crawford picked up two wickets for Beaminster, while Ross Baker and Ryan Sweetman took one wicket each.
Wicketkeeper Leo Gurd took two sharp catches behind the stumps.
Unlike Beaminster, Kingston Lacy kept their wickets and, after a tight spell of bowling from Will Moss (0-25) and Jones (0-16), the visitors accelerated the scoring rate in the latter overs to win the game with 10 balls remaining.
