WEYMOUTH II 76-2 (20pts) beat WINTON 75 (2pts) by eight wickets

WEYMOUTH Seconds notched up their second win from two games against a spirited Winton side at Redlands.

With heavy rain early in the morning, the game was under threat until the sun came out to give a beautiful early afternoon start.

Weymouth won the toss and elected to bowl.

Opener Luke Carrington generated some good pace but pulled up after just two overs with a groin injury.

Tom Anderson, opening at the other end, bowled accurately and took the first wicket with a great catch from captain Pete Gordon.

Ben Hunter replaced Carrington and took two quick wickets with some fine seam bowling.

Cube Whyte replaced Anderson and bowled some quality off-spin, taking four wickets for less than 10 runs in an exceptional spell.

A fantastic direct hit run out by Ollie Gordon accounted for wicket number eight.

Pete Sapsworth then came on and took the last two wickets leaving the sorry Winton side all out for just 75.

In reply, Weymouth openers Tony Quayle and Anderson, the oldest and youngest players in the side, batted confidently against a varied attack.

The pair had made 73 before Quayle was harshly dismissed lbw for 40 runs.

Hunter was out second ball going for a big hit before the winning score was achieved with Anderson carrying his bat for a studious 17 not out.

The next match will be a bigger test, away to Symene this Saturday.

n Nets continue at Wey Valley School on Thursday evenings and anyone is welcome to come and have a try.
