DORCHESTER captain Simon Mitchem is looking for his side to display more diligence with the bat when they travel to Stalbridge in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League tomorrow (1pm).

Mitchem’s men have failed to score more than 123 in a single innings this season and the club skipper is keen for the team to apply themselves in their latest fixture.

He said: “I think we just need to make sure we apply ourselves, bat and field well. It’s just about application, getting our heads down.

“We’ve got to make sure we focus, make the most of the opportunity and hit the bad balls.”

Dorchester all-rounder Will McKay misses the game due to work commitments, as does Josh Richardson due to university exams. The opening bowler is then expected to play for the rest of 2017.

Despite a difficult start to the campaign, with two losses from three matches, Mitchem believes in the ability of his side.

“We feel we should have won both games so we’re looking to get back to winning ways.

“It’s not so much about having to sit down and tell each other what we need to do, just taking a back seat and doing what we know we can do.

“We have plenty of talent in the side but we have to make sure we do the whole job, not half. We need people to stand up,” he added.
