DORCHESTER club captain Simon Mitchem is aiming to carry forward his side’s momentum when they travel to champions Wimborne and Colehill in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League tomorrow (1pm).

With two consecutive wins against Shroton and Poole under their belts, the county town side have overcome a wobbly start to the season that saw them lose three of their first four games.

Mitchem believes his team has been given a “confidence boost” by the recent results as they prepare for arguably their biggest test this season against the 2016 league winners.

He said: “Winning a couple of games on the trot is a good confidence boost. We’re all looking forward to it, we want to get out there and play, continuing where we left off and to do ourselves justice.

“We always have a very competitive game against them. We’ll try and do what we did in the last two weeks, with our momentum going into the game.

“It’s a matter of consistency with the bat and letting our cricket do the talking. Team spirit is really good at the moment, we’re all playing together as a team – obviously winning helps.

“Everyone’s enjoying their cricket which is the main thing.”

Dorchester will field two changes from the side that beat Poole by four wickets, with batsman Steve Clifford and opening bowler James Dunham replacing Quenton Miller and Ben Macklin.

“Steve Clifford comes in as a batsman which is like-for-like with Quenton.

“James strengthens our bowling even more, we’ve got great strength in depth there.

“I think on Saturday we showed when we played Poole they were expecting our bowling to get worse but it didn’t.

“It’s so strong, we’ve got lots of options. If someone has an off day we have got plenty to turn to,” Mitchem said.

Mitchem’s Dorset Leopards team-mate Ed Nichols was called up to the senior squad on Wednesday and the Dorchester man revealed he has sent him a message of congratulations.

“I’m really pleased for him,” he said. “He’s worked hard over the winter and last year.

“I texted him congratulations and I hope he makes the most of the opportunity. I wish him all the best.

“It’s good that they have given people a chance. With regards to myself I’m just concentrating on doing well for Dorchester and to perform with bat and ball and if anything comes of that it will be a bonus.”
