DORCHESTER Bowls Club held their annual President’s Day event when a splendid turnout of around 100 club members filled all of the inside and outside rinks.
President Bryan Tucker hosted the occasion with much assistance from the club’s willing band of organisers and helpers.
The dress code for the day, selected by the president, was Hawaiian.
This theme was embraced with much gusto by the members and there were many grass skirts in display – mainly worn by the men.
Among all the fun, one of the main purposes of President’s Day is to raise money for the president’s nominated charities.
This year £450 was raised on the day to be added to the president’s charity fund which will be split evenly between Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and the Firefighter’s Charity.
The bowling was a thoroughly light-hearted affair with 100 friends playing relaxed, but competitive, games of rinks bowls – President’s Team versus Past Presidents’ Team.
The winners of the outdoors fours competition were Dave and Gwen Caundle and Ken and Liz Whately, while the indoors was won by Ian Matthews, John Burton, Jo Galley and Tony Palmer.
The president’s team had a narrow overall victory despite Tucker deciding to be a non-playing captain.
