DORCHESTER Town assistant-manager Trevor Senior was pleased with the Magpies’ latest run out after their 3-2 win at Melksham Town.

Senior said the club’s players had improved on their last performance against Bradford Town, and admitted the playing facilities at Oakfields were more conducive to boss Craig Laird’s preferred passing style.

He told Echosport: “It’s obviously a nice setup (at Melksham) and it makes playing football here a lot easier with the new ground.

“The lads worked well, we got closer to people and created more chances.

“We’re not going to get carried away with the result, the same as we won’t get carried away with the result on Monday.”

Trialist Tom Bearwish, who is contracted to Eastleigh, bagged a brace on the night, with Laird now weighing up his options on the lively forward.

Dorchester led three times during the match as Sam Lanahan, who signed for the club on the evening, opened the scoring.

Warren Maidment equalised for the hosts after the Magpies couldn’t clear a corner, before Bearwish gave them a 2-1 half-time lead.

Melksham were level for a second time when Ben Pring fired home, but Bearwish ensured Laird’s men left Oakfields with a positive result when he slotted home following an excellent run and cross from Ed Bastick.

There was still time for substitute Tom Blair and Lanahan to each hit the bar as Dorchester threatened a fourth goal.

With Laird away for the next fixture at Poole Town, Senior and Stuart Heath will deputise.
