MICHAEL Watson is determined to qualify for the play-offs again this year and is right in form to consolidate his position, writes Peter Godsiff.

The Wessex Golf Centre professional completed the perfect preparation for the Cumberwell Park Players Championship Order or Merit event by winning his second regional Pro-Am of the summer in style at West Wilts.

His three-under-par 66 on a difficult day for scoring at the hill-top Warminster course brought a one-shot success over Richard O’Hanlon (St Kew), Sion Bebb (Morlais Castle) and the previous day’s winner Jon Bevan (Sherborne).

He was three under after 12 before he dropped his only shot at the next hole. His fourth birdie at the 16th brought him the lead.

O’Hanlon made five birdies but dropped three shots.

Bebb made a three-birdie start but was only level after nine before his round was restored by three birdies in the way home.

Bevan made a double bogey six at the 12th before biting back in a great finale making birdies at the 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th.

Adam Frayne (Yelverton) and Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) with five birdies each and Ross Langdon (Brickhampton) with four were the only other players under par on 68. They shared fifth. Langdon led the winning team of Mike Price, Kevin Lucas and Tom Martin on 13-under-par 125.
