DORCHESTER Rugby Club is supporting the charity “Children of Fiji” by donating a large number of their previous season’s shirts for use in schools and sports colleges in Fiji.

The club have donated kit and training gear on three previous occasions organised by club stalwart Ben Sennett, who lives in Cattistock along with Peter and Margaret Long, founders of the charity, and successfully set the link up.

On this occasion, the club has donated enough playing shirts for three sides, consisting of two old home strips and an away strip.

Club president Frank Dike handed the kit over along with Sennett to the Longs who are off on another visit to Fiji soon.

Dike said: “It is a fantastic thing to see that our previous season’s kit will be put to such great use in a rugby loving nation.

“The work the Longs do is a fantastic effort and we are pleased to support them in this way and look forward to hearing about their new projects.”

As part of the on-going programme the charity provides basic items for schools and kindergartens, such as relevant reading and reference material, stationery, games and equipment.

They visit schools on the main islands and also on many of the smaller islands of Fiji, and they also regularly provide resources for children’s homes and the children’s departments of hospitals.

The Coburg Road club is proud to be helping in some small way towards these children and hope they enjoy many successful games in the old club strips.

Dike added: “We look forward to seeing pictures of the local schools in the green and white of Dorchester RFC and wish them well in their games.”
